What is Martial Arts?
It is a system of techniques, physical and mental exercises developed as an effective means of self-defence.
How common are injuries?
Martial arts involves vigorous physical activity and contact, injuries will occasionally occur, but at SFKA , training is fully supervised at all times,
and all care is taken so injuries are very unlikely.
Is there any violence in the classes?
No, there are no heroes at the dojo! Ego's are not wanted as this is a friendly family club for everyone wanting to enjoy a fun evening.
What is a good age to start?
Seven years is recommended but we have had students as young as five.
How long does a Grading go for?
At SFKA, Grading day starts at 8.30 am to 3.30 pm and is held on a Sunday two or three times a year. Black Belts have a two day grading, they start day one at 5.30am
going through to 7pm, then on day two, 5.30am to 2.30pm.
Should children study martial arts?
In general, yes. Some of the common positives would be control of aggressiveness, instilling self-respect and self-control as well as teaching self-defence.
Are all your instructors qualified?
Absolutely, we do not and never will employ unqualified people, Safety is paramount at SFKA. All our instructors are accredited with the Martial Arts Industry Association. (MAIA)
Do you have weapon training?
Yes we do, however at SFKA it is important to know that our weapon training is for defence purposes only.
