Shihan (Frank Wilson) started training in 1990, only after taking his son Kevin to karate classes.
The idea was to give Kevin some self-defence training. Shihan had no intention of ever becoming involved.
A dad of 30 years of age was a little to old too become involved in this stuff.

As the weeks passed there were as many parents in the class as there were children. Shihan really enjoyed going to the dojo (training rooms) and started to train in earnest and found there was much more to karate than just self-defence.

Shihan today is a 4th Dan Black Belt and holds a great number of certificates. He is also a member of the International Sports Karate Association.

Shihan has developed the skills and knowledge to ensure quality instruction of a curriculum with depth, all set in a friendly atmosphere. Training classes are run to a high standard and student safety is paramount; all designed to ensure our training is effective.

All students are treated with respect and our low cost entry fees assists those wishing to enjoy karate training without hardship.

At Shihan Franks Karate Academy your instructors are all Dan level, and very experienced trainers.

Our instructors teach structure and discipline. The history and philosophy of karate is explained and correct karate techniques are taught from the day you start.

Shihan is in touch with what is happening, so students are constantly up to date and taught the older aspects of karate along with the modern self-defence techniques.

You will be trained in the art of using your weight and momentum in punches, kicks and strikes, as well as joint locks, throws, take'downs and use of pressure points.
